"Well This Was Unexpected" according to Eden.M. I'm usually too busy reading to pay too much attention to my preorders, so when I saw there was a new novel from Stuart MacBride I figured it would be the latest Logan McRae, so I was quite surprised to see it wasn't, and I'll admit my heart sank when I saw that it didn't appear to be a standalone, but looking like book one in a new series, after all it's hard to imagine an author could begin to match or compare w. "Back to his best" according to Veritas. Enjoyable and interesting read, my only complaint, how can the main character ( like in so many of these crime novels) get beaten up so badly , so many different times, by so many different people and still manage to function? That said I look forward to Mr Macbride's next novel.. Stuart at his best! Excellent characters, wit, suspense. It's dark, great twists. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It's on par with Logan McRae series. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes the new Callum McGregor series. Well done!

So when an ancient mummy turns up at the Oldcastle tip, it’s his job to find out which museum it’s been stolen from. But then Callum uncovers links between his ancient corpse and three missing young men, and life starts to get a lot more interesting. Gripping standalone thriller from the Sunday Times No.1 bestselling author of the Logan McRae series.Welcome to the Misfit Mob…It’s where Police Scotland dumps the officers it can’t get rid of, but wants to: the outcasts, the troublemakers, the compromised. The question is, can they prove everyone wrong before he strikes again?. O Division’s Major Investigation Teams already have more cases than they can cope with, so, against everyone’s better judgement, the Misfit Mob are just going to have to manage this one on their own.No one expects them to succeed, but right now they’re the only thing standing between the killer’s victims and a slow, lingering death. Officers like DC Callum MacGregor, lumbered with all the boring go-nowhere cases
