American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History
Description
Adrenaline-charged and deeply personal, American Sniper is a thrilling eyewitness account of war that only one man could tell.. Kyle talks honestly about the pain of war - of twice being shot and experiencing the tragic deaths of two close friends. He recorded a personal-record 2,100-yard kill shot outside Baghdad; in Fallujah, Kyle braved heavy fire to rescue a group of Marines trapped on a street; in Ramadi, he stared down insurgents with his pistol in close combat. From 1999 to 2009, U.S. American Sniper also honors Kyle's fellow warriors, who raised hell on and off the battlefield. A native Texan who learned to shoot on childhood hunting trips with his father, Kyle was a champion saddle-bronc rider prior to joining the Navy. And in moving first-person accounts throughout, Kyle's wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their marriage and children, as well as on Chris. "Honest" according to D. Roberts. When I first posted this review, there were roughly Honest When I first posted this review, there were roughly 3000 other reviews and many 1 and 2 star reviews. Most of the low rated reviews were from folks posting negative comments that had not even read the book. They were obviously against the war, didn't like the military, etc. Some of these comments are offensive, at least too me they were. The two together represent quite well both the feelings of patriotism as a member of the military as well as being a spouse to a member of the military. Though I I never went to battle I did experience both. Even those who don't go to battle as well as their spouses are trained and ready at any time Togo to war. Separations whether at war or not are never easy and after each separation both have become slightly different people through the experience. As was stated in both books, many couples don't end up make it a . A raw account of a sniper I had intended to read this book and see the film but was immediately moved to do so after listening to an interview with the screenwriter on The Rich Roll podcast. The intro to the book states that it was submitted for review to the military prior to publication in accordance with their standards and that there was quite a bit that they didn't like. What that tells you is that this is a pretty raw account of serving as a dedicated Navy SEAL sniper. It is not an overly romanticized tale of a hero or a legend as Chris Kyle has come to be known.
