A beautiful book wiredweird Bouguereau, without doubt, produced beautiful paintings. He followed the classic salon style, with romantic figures in pastoral scenes. Since his career overlapped the blossoming of Art Nouveau, one can certainly read some effect of that era in his work, whether he in fact put it there.Although he was widely acclaimed in his time, there have been mixed impressions of it, both then and now. The Impressionists held him up as all that was wrong with the French art. The Broken Pitcher I've been a fan of Bouguereau since I first saw The Young Shepardess at the San Diego Museum of Art many years ago. That painting is included here as well as another favorite, The Broken Pitcher. The reproductions are descent and there are many of them. The only fault I can find is that it doesn't include enough nudes. Bouguereau was a fine painter of female nude and though some are included here I would have liked more. The book does include Evening Mood, The . Aunt Tilitha said Gorgeous Historical Art Work At Your Fingertips. So much information is given here about this famous artist who painted over 700 fantastic works. His life is told well and the colors of his varied paintings are remarkable for a paperback book. Definitely worth the purchase price!
