Divine Eros: Hymns of St Symeon the New Theologian (Popular Patristics)
Description
No thoughtful readercan respond to them with indifference. The Hymns challenge the reader to internalize Christian values, even to embrace the Christ event as an individual experience. The Hymns are well suited for devotional reading, but they are not mere devotional tracts; they include time-honored Christian doctrine expressed in a manner that is all themore meaningful for their poetic beauty.Symeon's Hymns are an expression ofspiritual reading at its best, that is, theyare Symeon's interpretation of his life and hisrelationship with God in light of Scripture andthe Fathers. Among his writings, his Hymns are inspiring poetry of timeless value. Therein lies a strength of Symeon'sHymns: with heartfelt zeal and biblical imagery,Symeon makes the doctrines of the Fathersintimately relevant for the individual.. Beautiful hymns to God Emily His words display such love for God from his heart, just like David's Psalms. Great read before bedtime or in the morning.. "Five Stars" according to alexandre t paskalis. Love St. Symeon. A message that is old but cutting edge Dr. Tom Griner I love this translation of St. Symeon. My hope is that more of his works will be translated. This theology has been buried long enough in the eastern church. It gives language to what the renewal charismatic churches are experiencing in this day. High recommendations.
