A More Classical Approach You will love the John Thompson series. Students will get to play more classical pieces and really gain confidence and a sense of pride when they master each song. Different key signatures are introduced as well as transposing. Additionally, parents and teachers enjoy hearing songs that are less juvenile and are actually recognizeable. As a piano teacher, you students and parents will be glad you recommended this series. Although this book says First Grade Book it should not be used for a brand new beginner. If you are switching from another series you should complete their first series at least before heading into this book.. "The best books for learning piano" according to Danger. These are the best books for learning the piano. I have been teaching piano lessons for over 10 years and have not found a better book series. I highly recommend these books. They are more difficult than Alfred's and others, but the return is just not as great with the other books. I have used several series and always come back to John Thompson. It cannot be beat!. Some Things Can't Be Improved Upon NatchitochesLa Took up piano again and tried a couple of "adult" books but wasn't feeling the love. Finally remembered the name of these from my piano lessons 50 years ago. This series is the best, hands down.
