Description

In this captivating novel, Mary Balogh, the premier writer of Regency romance, invites you into a world of scandal and seduction, of glittering high society and intrigue, as an arrogant duke does the unthinkable - he falls in love with his mistress. Yet as she got past his devilish façade and saw the noble heart within, she knew the greatest jeopardy of all, a passion that drove her to risk everything on one perfect month with the improper gentleman who thought love was for fools.. When he offered to set her up in his London town house, love was the last thing on his mind. But Jane Ingleby was far too bold for her own good. She questioned his every move, breached his secrets, touched his soul. Her blue eyes were the sort a man could drown in - were it not for her impudence. Surely there was nothing more perilous than being the lover of such a man. In the mêlée, Jocelyn Dudley, Duke of Tresham, was shot. Jane tried to pretend it was strictly business, an arrangement she was forced to accept in order to conceal a dangerous secret. She raced onto the green, desperate to stop a duel. To his astonishment, Tresham found himself hiring the servant as his nurse

5 stars until the ending;( One of the best bantering I've read in a long while. Super romantic. Good plot. And then towards the end, the heroine changes her personality and becomes annoying. The ending drops down to three stars and bits & pieces are left undone. Another weird thing is I just read Mary Balough's book The Secret Pearl and there are so many similarities in the plots and the heroine. Both books are greatjust don't read them back to back like I di.. One of my favorite Balogh Books Nodaker I have read this book at least three times. Wonderful romance. Slightly implausible flight from supposed crime. Great heroine and hero - except that the author has given the hero a first name that practically threw me out of the story every time I came across it. I am sure Jocelyn was an acceptable though not common English name in the past; Evelyen was as well. But I hated "Jocelyn" and cannot imagine the author's purpose in using it. How was it even pronounced? Long "o" - short "o"? I kept wishing my Kindle had a find and replace feature so I could give him a different first name. Please don't do this again, Ms. Balogh. good writing and interesting characters audrey frances Jane Ingleby has caused the Duke of Tresham no little vexation -- distracting him during a duel in Hyde Park, daring to challenge his commands, and enticing him with that golden hair and bewitching mouth . you get the picture. This is a standard plot but well-written enough to be entertaining and a fun read. Circumstances result in silly behavior from an otherwise intelligent heroine and we come to appreciate that the Duke's legendary reputation as a rake does not fully encompass the man. The characters have strengths as well as flaws, and the book is very good until about the last 30 pages. The main impediment to the tw
