Description

Adrienne said A suspensful story that wears its sorrow like a pall. The titular character is Odd in name and odd in abilities. A twenty year old, short order fry cook with the gift or the curse to see the dead. He lives in the small California desert town of Pico Mundo, which translates into "peak of the world." I initially thought that our hero's name was Thomas and Odd was an apt description of him. He very quickly dispels this belief in the first few chapters. The name bestowed upon him is Odd, and despite his mundane occupation and humble domicile, our poor MC's life has been anything but. This story seems a mere snippet of what Odd has . H. Grove (errantdreams) said Odd Thomas is very odd. Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas is whimsical, endearingly earnest, and yet quite dark. The first-person narrative voice is lovely, gorgeously communicating the one-of-a-kind personalities that inhabit Pico Mundo. The book is also incredibly quotable. The plot is fascinating and includes a number of wild twists and turns; I even cried at one point. One plot trope I’m not overly fond of these days is the one where a character ‘earns’ a girlfriend–as though she’s some sort of object/prize to be won. But not really. It all boils down to the fact that Odd Thomas can see dead people. But as Mr Koontz says in his own words, " he [Odd] actually DOES something about it”. It is a good thing, therefore, as an incredibly bold (or is that naive?) twenty one year old, that h

Occasionally their otherworldly tips help him prevent a crime. Meet Odd Thomas, the unassuming young hero of Dean Koontz’s dazzling New York Times bestseller, a gallant sentinel at the crossroads of life and death who offers up his heart in these pages and will forever capture yours.“The dead don’t talk. Aided by his soul mate, Stormy Llewellyn, and an unlikely community of allies that includes the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, Odd will race against time to thwart the gathering evil. I don’t know why.” But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. His account of these shattering hours, in which past and present, fate and destiny, converge, is a testament by which to live—an unforgettable fable for our ti

The proximity of bodachs to a weird-looking stranger in town, whom Odd dubs "Fungus Man," alerts Odd that trouble is brewing; breaking into Fungus Man's house, Odd discovers not only hundreds of bodachs but a shrine to serial killers that helps him deduce that somehow Fungus Man will wreak widespread havoc very soon-so Odd is caught in a classic race against time to deter catastrophe. . This is Koontz working at his pinnacle, providing terrific entertainment that deals seriously with some of the deepest themes of human existence: the nature of evil, the grip of fate and the power of love.Copyright 2003 Reed Business
