wow i had not read this before and if you are into the author at all this is a fantastic funny piece of worka long history but is much fun and remarkable. Misleading S Bought this book for my mom, it is a very boring difficult to read book that she struggles out of courtesy to get through. Waste of $$. "Ideal for its Kind of Literature" according to James Ellsworth. Montesquieu's Persian Letters represent a wonderful confection of ideas, social satire and social commentary. It is no wonder they are still in print and are retranslated from time to time. For me, the charm of these works is that they relate to a time when a person of lively curiosity delighted in picking up a book of an evening and reading a chapter or two; then reflecting on what had just been read.
