It is straightforward, and simple using the tablature method rather than standard music theory-which will give you a basic start on beginning to understand reading music and music theory later on if you choose. By taking some time doing the exercises, I was strumming away faster than I thought and have also learned that their are a number of music sheet books with tab measures which can let you go on beyond this b. so the book did a great job for someone without knowledge of reading music Amazon Customer I am currently using this book off/on because I got stuck on the "Arpeggio" part of the book. I have never learned to read music, so the book did a great job for someone without knowledge of reading music. I will probably need to get a DVD on "How To" play guitar so I can see it "Visually". Everything is pretty straightforward and easy to understand, and I would definitely recommend this book to friends and family. I do have prior musical knowledge, but the book explains the basics really well for beginners and gives you several songs to learn to play as you progress.
