Description

"Four Stars" according to Annebinkley. good. "Wonderful, heartrending story and happiest of endings" according to Mrs A W Vaughan. Hildy,Belle and Cora are three very different women, making their way in a very difficult world. War, devastation, love and heartbreak are elements they each have to deal with and overcome in their own way. I loved the strength and support they gave each other in times of hardship, and how, no matter how they made it through the blackest times, they were essentially good women doing what they had to do. June Tate writes totally from the heart, and I was with the trio every step of the way. The ending was surprising yet perfect. A lovely book, of its time and still so resonant now. Another great read from this fabulous author.

Faced with homelessness and poverty, Cora and her friend, Belle, turn to the dark streets of Southampton to work on the game. Working on an aeroplane production line for planes, Hildy believes she is doing her part for the war effort. For all three women, the war creates hardships from which they will emerge only by maintaining strength and, above all, the hope that they can achieve their dreams.. Meanwhile, Cora is still reeling from the devastating loss of both her parents in the Blitz. Spring, 1944. But troubles at home with her overly protective mother make it harder for her to find happiness
