Good bones; flawed execution LingoSlinger This "who and why dunnit" was brilliantly paced, and in Will Robie, we have the germ of an interesting character (although Barry Eisler did the same disciplined loner assassin much better in his Rain novels). Two aspects of the book were offputting to me.1) There is a main supporting character who is a 14-year-old girl. At only one point in the book did she act or talk like a 14-year-old girl. The rest of the time, she spoke like a middle-aged man whom you have been told is a teenage girl. Consistently jarring handling of this character.2) The prose is filled with jump cuts that bumped. "A fast read." according to Dave Hoeltje. does not equate to a good read. I broke a semi-rigid long standing self imposed rule and bought a book by a popular author with seemingly formulaic and contrived characters and story lines with 1,000's of 5 star reviews on Amazon. My need for this "rule" was substantiated by "The Innocent" as the story was so full of ridiculous plot holes and awe inspiringly flat characters that my ability to suspend disbelief was challenged in ways I've never before experienced. The author seems to have some sort of personal rule about sentences not having more than 6-8 words as well as the dialog and. Jjspina said A fast-paced thriller!. David Baldacci does it again in this thriller with hired assasin, Will Robie. This book kept me mesmerized from start to finish with all the twists and turns and surprises. The body count rose each time he was around. The author has created a fascinating character in Will Robie. He is a professional assasin who has a heart. He goes out of his way to protect the innocent in Book 1 while working with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to solve multiple murders. None of whic
