Description

Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep; so deep, indeed, that no cable could sound it, and many church steeples, piled one upon another, would not reach from the ground beneath to the surface of the water above. No, indeed, for on this sand grow the strangest flowers and plants, the leaves and stems of which are so pliant that the slightest agitation of the water causes them to stir as if they had life. We must not imagine that there is nothing at the bottom of the sea but bare yellow sand. Fishes, both large and small, glide between the branches as birds fly among the trees here upon land.. There dwell the Sea King and his subjects

Not quite the illustrated kind of book I was expecting K. Nash I thought an illustrated book was supposed to show pictures during or along with the story, like most children's books. Rather, the pictures (of paintings and drawings) by an array of artists are shown at the end, each depicting a scene from the story. Now why couldn't some of these pictures be brought in along with the story??? It all would have been much more enjoyable. This is why I only gave this 4 stars instead of . "The illustrated Little Mermaid" according to Diana S. Metzler. Mermaids have always been my passion and collection (not sure why). When I was a little girl my favorite comic book was about a mermaid called Merna the Mermaid, when ever I read this comic I use to say I wanted to grow up to be a mermaid. Well, you can imagine why that didn't happen but when the story of "The Little Mermaid" came out, it peaked my interest even more. Now I collect everything that has to do with mermaid. "Five Stars" according to Sandra Bishop. Great to find this book from my childhood and share with my granddaughter. Book was in excellent condition too.
