The Pocket Lawyer for Comic Book Creators: A Legal Toolkit for Comic Book Artists and Writers
Description
GabrielLives said Know your industry. Don't get screwed. Read this book.. I'm a lawyer, novelist, and now a comic book writer with a new limited series being published later this year (deal made at ECCC and soon to be announced at SDCC - yay!). IP law isn't my thing, but I figured I should have a look into this area to better familiarize myself with the ins and outs of the industry. Look, this is a great book. It's comprehensive, smart, and nuanced. Fantastic examples of situational issues. And the big surprise? It's readable. Even entertaining. A great resource for any lawyer, but an absolute. "and it's been super helpful, even if not all of the examples" according to MH. While this was aimed at comic book artists/writers, a lot of it is relevant to anyone in the arts field. I've used it to get a head start with familiarizing myself with the treacherous landscape of indie game development, and it's been super helpful, even if not all of the examples apply exactly to my circumstances, it gives you an idea of where to look.. The Comic Book Legal Bible! This book has been incredibly helpful to me as an up and coming graphic novelist. It's a must read if you're creating a comic book or graphic novel and you need to a legal go-to to make sure you're protected with your IP, Copyrights, Trademarks, Licensing and other agreements you share with collaborators. Plus, it gives you pointers on what to do next once your comic is complete. It pretty much covers ALL the legal bases. Great Book!!
