I have read several of Greg Iles' books before this one and really enjoyed his writing, so I decided to give the Penn Cage series a tryI am so glad I did! This book had me captivated by the end of the first chapter. I couldn't put it down and ordered book #2 (Turning Angel) before I was even finished. I have an image of them staring off into the Delta with hundred yard stares, some dangling cigars from downturned mouths. There's been so many great writers raised there. And, now, we have another. I just finished book five of this series, and am starting his earlier work. I have entered a new version of Yoknapatawpha county, steeped in secrets and crimes, violence and passion, subplots and genealogies. Mind boggling in. "Most excellent in every way." according to Bentley's Folks. What a well-written page turner! I've not read Greg Iles before, but I sure will read the rest of his series about Penn. This book will captivate you from page one, It begins with a widower who is with his small daughter in line at Disney World, trying to recapture good feelings about the last time they were there with his wife. Every page after this brings you in to this man's life: his past as a prosecutor in Houston, and present as a man who returns home to Natchez where his parent
