"The Third Book Is Best, But Unfortunately, You Need To Read The First Two To Appreciate That" according to Terry D. Janes. I'd bought the first two books by this author at the same time, then read them in succession. I barely finished them. There were parts of the story I liked, but the author tended to focus on "the prophecy" so much, that it really grated on me. I have read a number of historical fiction book lately and I am really getting into the genre. The Winter Sword is a great example of what draws me to this type of book as it is placed in one of my favorite periods of history and uses a lot of accurate details. The book is very well written with excellent character development. The characters feel very real and flawed which really makes them come alive on the page.Overall a very well written book with a gripping story that I ended up finishing in just "Historically accurate and very well written" according to michael naylor.
