"Read it if you dare" according to Richard Sutton. If you grew up with mean or distant parents, or have experience within the often crazy situations inside a family business I can tell you with all confidence that you ain't seen nothin' yet. The abuse, cruelty and psychotic behavior displayed by the parents and grandparents of the author of this gritty memoir went so far beyond my own ideas of dysfunction, that it was almost physically uncomfortable to read it. The first couple of chapters were so grueling that at first, I thought the book was some kind of well-deserved retribution. Pay . "I regularly enjoyed Gifford's ice cream" according to HBR. I agree with many of the reviews here. I also found that I could not put this book down. Now, some two weeks later, I am still reflecting on what I read. Andrew has succeeded in displaying superb writing skills that made me feel as though I was almost actually there watching him endure his many struggles within the dysfunctional Gifford family. As a child in the 1950's, I regularly enjoyed Gifford's ice cream. As a former Gifford's employee in the 1960's, I knew a good bit about what was going on behind the scenes at Gifford's, but I was. I was hooked in the first chapter B.Tate For a special treat on a Saturday or a Sunday my family would go to Gifford's for ice cream. Every year we would order the Christmas tree ice cream roll for our Christmas Eve Smorgasbord. Our church youth group would also have outings there. Thinking about Gifford's will bring back sweet, fond memories of my youth.I was hooked in the first chapter but had trouble sleeping that night.It's amazing the author was able to face his demons and then research, write and share them with the public. Whether or not you are familiar with Gifford's y
